Design hotel week!

Welcome to a new week here on the blog, I hope you had a nice weekend! I have seen so many stylish hotels lately, so I figured why not collect them all and devote the entire week to design hotels? So that's what I'm going to do, starting with this beauty in Brussels, Belgium:

Once a private residence built in the 1920's, Odette en Ville is located in the Châtelain quarter, lively by day and quiet by night. Intended to be a place where guests can relax at the end of a day's touring or work, this is a hotel with a difference, intimate and exclusive like a boutique hotel, yet with the impeccable service of a traditional establishment. The decorating is kept in hues of grey, black and brown and the mix between traditional and modern is just striking.

Concrete floors in the Netherlands

I found this in the latest issue of Sköna Hem, a dutch home with concrete floors throughout. With a white base the owners can change the decor very easily by adding different colors, and right now it's decorated in my favorite style with a natural color range with lots of wood and grey/black pieces.

the friday files

This week was all about food for me. I made a concerted effort to eat protein for breakfast every morning and thanks to some of your suggestions I was about 80% successful. It really does make a difference to the start of my day.

I also discovered a couple of new food sites that had me salivating with each new photo. There really is no other term for these blogs other than food pornography. I don't know about you but I tend to stick to my own when it comes to perusing other sites. I rarely look at anything beyond the world of design blogs with the exception of a few fashion sites.

Ceri over at The Sweet Potato Chronicles mentioned to me that I should check out two aggregate blogs called Tastespotting and Foodgawker. Both sites simply post the best looking food photographs from blogs around the world with links back to the original posts. I was immediately hooked and was soon submitting some of my own foodie photographs. (My White Bolognese Sauce and Chocolate Chip Cookies made the cut over at Tastespotting!)

Strangely enough while I was off checking out gastronomical blogs of all kinds, The Kitchn, picked up my Homemade Oreos post that I did for The Sweet Potato Chronicles. So as you can see it was a bit of a foodie week for me. Have you seen these sites before? Any other good food sites you visit often?

I'm leaving you this week, with some beautiful images from photographer Eric Piasecki's portfolio. I was immediately struck by his eye for texture. I'll be back here next week with another amazing house from our neighborhood for my Hello! Neighbor series – see you then!

Philippe Starck
