Bar & Co, Helsinki

This is interior architect Joanna Laajisto's latest project, a bistro style bar in Helsinki called Bar & Co. She designed it to have four areas with different atmospheres. "The Bar" with a 6 metre carrara marble bar, "The Butchers Room" with a large butchers block island and counter height tables and chairs, "The Library" with sofas and lounge chairs and "The Smoking Room" with green paneled walls. To see all the rooms, please go to Joanna's portfolio.

The over all design concept adopts some elements from the classic bistro style, such as the glossy white wall tiles and marble table tops, but in a new and modern way so the look is fresh and up to date. Although the design is quite minimalist and clean, lot of attention has been made to detail. Custom made textile birds were ordered from the British artist Abigail Brown, vintage copper cake molds are used as tea light holders and the copper candle sconces through out the space were designed by Joanna especially for this place.

Bar & Co will open next week, and it's going to be a sure stop on my next Helsinki trip!
